The
Electras were a rock ‘n' roll band originally
formed by four teenagers at St. Paul's School in Concord,
New Hampshire in 1960. The band – which started as a
classic 4-piece garage band - evolved over a three-year
period with other musicians joining the original quartet.
By the time it disbanded in 1963 – no
less than thirteen different musicians had played as members
of the group. One of the four lineups of the band even recorded
a primitive album. The Electras enjoyed a local
popularity - playing at school dances and sock hops.
While the band itself didn't change the music
world – one of its founding members is now poised to
change the world in a more significant way.
And that is because the bass player in
The Electras was a 16 year-old named John
Kerry – who
went on to become a five-times decorated war hero and
U.S. Senator and is now the Democratic Party candidate
for President of the United States.
In the last few months there has been considerable
interest in The Electras – as they have come to be seen as
John Kerry's FIRST “band of brothers” – the friends with
whom he created rock ‘n' roll in his high-school years.
